Institutional support

We help organisations strengthen their competitiveness in research and innovation by aligning strategy, culture, and structures with the expectations of funders, regulators, and society. Our institutional support includes audits, targeted recommendations, and implementation guidance that turn inclusion into an operational advantage, not a branding exercise. The goal is simple: to build organisations and ecosystems that attract diverse talent, deliver credible and representative results, and are equipped to operate in complex international collaborations, whether you are a funder, a company, a university, or any actor shaping the research landscape.

Project support

We support research projects across the full life cycle, from early proposal development to final reporting, by ensuring that diversity, internationalisation, and collaboration are embedded in both the science and the consortium’s way of working. We help shape competitive national, Horizon Europe, IHI  and other international proposals, strengthen governance structures, design inclusive methodologies, and equip teams to collaborate effectively across disciplines, sectors, and borders.

When relevant, DIVERSIunity can join the consortium as a formal project partner, contributing directly to work packages on leadership, culture, compliance, communication, impact, and inclusive research design. Our involvement helps projects run more smoothly, meet reviewer and regulator expectations, and ultimately produce results that are credible, representative, and relevant for diverse populations.

Compliance, monitoring and impact

Funders and regulators increasingly expect robust diversity strategies, transparent monitoring, and demonstrable societal impact. We help teams design practical and credible approaches that satisfy ethical, regulatory, scientific, and cultural requirements, without adding unnecessary administrative burden. Our support ranges from gender and diversity analyses to impact frameworks, evaluation plans, and strategies for navigating cultural sensitivities and differing political contexts across countries and partners. We make compliance purposeful and integrated, helping projects and organisations build trust, manage risk, and deliver results that matter to all communities involved.

Leadership

Our leadership programme, Leadership in Diverse Research Environments (LiDRE), equips researchers at every stage, from early-career to experienced PIs, to lead diverse, international teams in complex settings. Across its three levels (Essentials, Core, and Masterclass), LiDRE addresses the real leadership challenges of modern research: navigating cultural differences, creating inclusive team cultures, collaborating across institutions, and meeting funder expectations.

Participants develop practical skills, a shared vocabulary, and concrete tools that strengthen not only team performance but also the quality of the research itself. By integrating inclusive research practices into leadership habits, LiDRE helps build more credible, relevant, and globally competitive research, designed by all and for all.

Leadership in diverse research environments for aspiring researchers

This workshop is designed for early-stage researchers or researchers leading a research team for the first time. It could be part of MSCA DNs, COFUND applications (or similar) that work with several junior researchers who need to develop leadership skills in this specific area to become leaders in research and innovation in the future. It can be run as an introductory one-day workshop or for a more in-depth exploration over a longer period with an initial and final workshop with two digital follow-ups during the project.

Project kick-off

This workshop is aimed at kick-off or start-up meetings in international research projects (fx EU projects) where the participants can discuss how to

make diversity and internationalisation work. It will be practical and bespoke to the individual project (project content, type of project, participants, project length, etc.). It can be combined with facilitating parts of the meeting and broader project EDI consultancy.

It can be combined with special episodes of our podcast to create a different

From LGBTQ+ researcher to LGBTQ+ leader

This course supports researchers who identify as LGBTQ+ on their journey into leadership positions in research. Covering leadership styles and general leadership skills such as communication, conflict resolution, delegation and strategy, each topic is contextualised from the perspective of being LGBTQ+ and what that means within international higher education. It allows the individual participant the rare opportunity to develop a network of colleagues with similar backgrounds and ambitions. The course consists of five thematic sessions delivered via a combination of online course materials and coaching sessions with a final follow-up workshop.

The LiDRE Programme (Leadership in Diverse Research Environments)

The Leadership in Diverse Research Environments (LiDRE) programme prepares researchers at all levels to lead diverse research groups and projects in international research settings. While most leadership models focus on institutional HR policies, and research leadership often relies on traditional metrics, LiDRE delivers immediate, research-specific tools that address the leadership challenge of leading international, inter-institutional, externally funded research projects.

We tackle complexity by equipping participants with skills, frameworks, and a vocabulary to work consistently and coherently with diversity in research and research groups in a pragmatic way, driving excellence, impact, and relevance.

The skills required lie at the intersection of research support, traditional leadership courses, and funder compliance. LiDRE is a scalable and modular programme designed and facilitated by experienced practitioners to prepare research leaders to create inclusive research cultures, comply with funders, and conduct research by all and for all.

LiDRE Essentials

For junior researchers and those new to the topic.

A compact online introduction to inclusive leadership in research. Over two sessions totalling five hours, plus a self-study toolkit, participants build a shared vocabulary, recognise key concepts in research culture, and understand what funders increasingly expect. The right starting point for individuals or teams who need a confident, practical grounding.

LiDRE Core

For emerging research leaders.

A six-month blended programme combining online sessions, a full day in person, and follow-up coaching. Designed for researchers setting up their first group, taking on their first grant, or identified for internal talent development. Participants leave with hands-on team tools, a personalised culture action plan, and a peer network to draw on long after the programme ends.

LiDRE Masterclass

For experienced researchers leading complex international projects.

An intensive six-month programme built around a two-day residential retreat. For those already leading, or about to lead, large, multi-partner projects such as ERC Synergy or IHI grants. Participants diagnose their own leadership style, design tailored interventions for their specific project culture, and work with individual coaching to evidence the impact of what they put in place.
